Welcome to Eindhoven!

From Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, Eindhoven comes alive with DE OPENING, the national celebration marking the start of the Dutch cultural season. Events take place at Stadhuisplein, De Markt, and dozens of cultural venues and other locations across the city.

Explore the full programme and interactive map in the DE OPENING app. As the city centre is expected to be busy during the festival, we recommend travelling by public transport or bicycle whenever possible. If you’re coming by car, consider using one of Eindhoven’s Park & Ride (P+R) facilities on the outskirts of the city.

Getting there
BY TRAIN

Eindhoven Central Station is located in the heart of the city, making it the ideal starting point for your visit to DE OPENING. It’s approximately a 5-minute walk to De Markt and around 10 minutes to Stadhuisplein.

Many participating cultural venues are also within walking distance or easily reached by public transport. Please plan your journey in advance and check for any engineering works or timetable changes before you travel.

BY BICYLE

If you live in Eindhoven or the surrounding area, cycling is one of the easiest ways to visit DE OPENING. With events taking place across the city, a bicycle also makes it easy to travel between different venues.

Please park your bicycle in designated bicycle parking areas and be aware that temporary traffic measures may be in place around busy event locations.

BY CAR

If you’re travelling by car, the following parking garages are available in Eindhoven city centre:

  • Q-Park Heuvel
  • Stadskantoor Parking Garage
  • De Admirant Parking Garage
  • Q-Park Bijenkorf

As the city centre is expected to be busy during DE OPENING, we recommend using one of Eindhoven’s Park & Ride (P+R) facilities whenever possible.

Eindhoven has two P+R locations:

  • P+R Meerhoven – ideal if you’re arriving via the A2 (Den Bosch) or A58 (Tilburg).
  • P+R Genneper Parken – recommended if you’re arriving from the south.

From the P+R locations, you can continue to the city centre by public transport or shared mobility services.

EXPLORING EINDHOVEN ON FOOT

Much of the DE OPENING programme takes place in and around the city centre. De Markt and Stadhuisplein are only a few minutes’ walk apart, and many participating cultural venues are also easily accessible on foot.

Planning to visit multiple events? Check the programme in advance and combine venues that are close to one another.

VISITING CULTURAL VENUES

In addition to the events at Stadhuisplein and De Markt, DE OPENING takes place at cultural institutions and other venues throughout Eindhoven. Accessibility varies by location.

The DE OPENING app includes the full programme and an interactive map, making it easy to find each venue and plan your route through the city.

LIVE TRAVEL INFORMATION

During DE OPENING, some parts of Eindhoven may be busier than usual and temporary traffic measures may be in place.

We recommend checking the latest travel information shortly before you leave. The City of Eindhoven accessibility map provides up-to-date information on roadworks, public transport stops, bicycle parking, shared mobility options, P+R locations, and parking facilities.

Whenever possible, travel by train or bicycle, wear comfortable shoes, and enjoy discovering DE OPENING on foot.
